Without Vision

Without a vision, people are prone to throwing caution to the wind and pursuing an agenda that feels right to them. The thinking is if it feels right then it must be right.

Social media is awash with quotes about vision which many profess to being transformed by. The quotes are often scribbled on the post-it notes of our lives and displayed proudly for others to see. Sadly, however, it is more often than not a case of the blind leading the blind. Unless our transformation starts from the inside out, and addresses the needs of our spirit, soul and body, it will always be superficial. A vision is supposed to bring enlightenment that triggers a change of heart and deep reflection. From that well we draw the waters of life which not only nourish us but refresh others around us. Sadly what typically passes for vision these days are words that are elegantly constructed and eloquently delivered about a destination that births an aspiration and a set of life rules. Do these rules work? To a certain degree yes, they do. But they are limited to this life and never venture into the next. Why? Because they are based on knowledge. In the Bible, Daniel received a revelation that in the last days many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase (Daniel 12:4). However, notice he did not say that wisdom or understanding will increase, only knowledge. The Bible tells us that the earth was founded by wisdom, established by understanding and prospered by knowledge (Proverbs 3:19-20). There is a lot of knowledge around but whilst knowledge can generate innovation and birth different disciplines in academia, it can never deliver a whole life experience. Why? Because any vision fabricated from mere knowledge is one birthed from a sinful nature. A sinful nature is one that resists God and submits to the devil. A sinful nature can only birth a sinful vision based on earthly knowledge derived from the five senses. The absence of any input from the Holy Spirit limits such an earthly vision to this world. Any vision that is limited to an earthly destination will never deliver true transformation. The kind of vision that delivers a whole life experience is one that is fashioned from wisdom, understanding and knowledge. The wisdom, and understanding come from God. Therefore the lack of wisdom and understanding has resulted in shallow visions that profess depth but are not even ankle-deep. I would argue that an ankle-deep vision is as good as having no vision because it cannot transform a life. A vision that cannot bring genuine transformation is ultimately pointless.
