I Told Myself to Rest
Life's ambitions are just a test
Why strive for more
When the pathway leads to war
What often looks like promotion
Is in reality a world of confusion
I Told Myself to rest
In this way I will produce my best
Peace of mind is free of charge
It is something for the world at large
Many do not embrace serenity
In their quest for ambition's insanity.
I Told Myself to rest
To find an appropriate nest
A place for creative expression
Something that creates a great impression
Searching for energy in my past
Hoping in the present for that which lasts.
I Told Myself to rest
A state of being that's blessed
Understanding His lavish grace
Seeing approval on His face
Knowing my days are numbered
I choose to separate from the herd.
I Told Myself to rest
I am not insomnia's guest
Wellbeing is often touted
But it's presence is often clouded
Time out to recuperate
From this stress I must separate.
