Time for what?

We have so much time! Time for the things that matter the most to us. With the exclusion of those who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness and have been

given a time frame, or those on death row awaiting the determined date for execution, we theoretically all have time, or do we? How we use our time is an indication of what matters most to us. If this sounds simplistic, it's because it is. Our use of time determines our values. So, what are you doing right now? How long have you been doing it for? Does it add value to your life? Does it add value to anyone else's life? What or who influences how you use your time? Do you actually have as much time as you think you do? These are pertinent questions, that demand an answer - not to me but to yourself Why? Because time is the most precious asset we have. If you speak to anyone who is dying, their last thoughts are of the things that have real value to them. I can assure you that these things cannot be valued in monetary terms. Time is a gift, a very valuable one, and one day we will have to confront the moment when there's less sand or salt in the upper chamber of the hourglass than there is in the lower one. If you can visualise such a moment, what would your last thoughts be of? Will any of the stuff that preoccupies you right now make that list? Moses asked God to teach him and the people he was tasked with leading how to number their days so that they could gain a heart of wisdom (Psalm 90:12); another version says "teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom" (NLT). Time for what? Time to prioritise.
